Windrose on Steam Deck — Best Settings
Windrose is Playable (not Verified) on Steam Deck as of May 2026. With the right config it holds 40 FPS outside of storms.
Recommended settings (40 FPS lock)
- Resolution: 1280×800 (native)
- Preset: Low
- Volumetric clouds: Off — single biggest FPS gain
- Water reflections: Low
- Shadow quality: Low
- Anti-aliasing: FSR Quality
- VSync: On with TDP cap 12W

Right-click Windrose → Properties → Launch Options:
-dx12 -windowed -ResX=1280 -ResY=800
Battery
TDP cap 10W + 40 Hz refresh gives ~2.5 hours. Without cap, the GPU spikes during storms and drains the deck in ~70 minutes.
Known Steam Deck issues
- Storm event FPS dip to ~25 — known, not a hardware issue. Sail out of the storm.
- Text scaling small at 800p — set HUD Scale to 1.2 in Settings → Display.
- Cloud save on suspend — exit to main menu before sleeping the Deck to avoid save corruption.
