How saving works
- Autosave fires every 5 in-game minutes (≈1 real minute on default time).
- Sleeping at a bed forces a save and sets your respawn point.
- Quitting to main menu triggers a save. Force-closing the game does NOT.
The respawn anchor
If you die without sleeping, you respawn at the last bed you slept at, not your last autosave location. This is the source of the popular Steam complaint: “Died on board, lost an hour.”
Always sleep before risky activities: boss fights, caves, boarding actions and storm voyages.
Cloud sync
Windrose supports Steam Cloud. To migrate a save to another PC: exit cleanly to main menu, wait for the cloud icon to confirm sync, then launch on the other machine.
